What is a Sugarplum cake made of?

Our cakes are made from ingredients.  We do not use mixes or artificial flavors in our cakes.  Most of our cakes are filled with Swiss meringue buttercream – a silky, light frosting made by whipping meringue with high quality butter.  We can also fill your cake with ganache or lemon curd.

 

The standard cake tier is 10 cm tall and consists of 3 layers of cake and 2 layers of filling.  Depending on the design, your cake may then be covered in a rolled fondant icing.

Can I drop by the coffeeshop and talk to someone about ordering a cake?

No, but we would love for you to drop in and enjoy a flat white or a slice of our famous carrot cake.  Our baristas are here to make amazing coffee and to serve up the other Sugarplum goodies, but are not authorized to give information regarding the availability or pricing of our custom cakes.  This information is available by email or by appointment only.  Send us a message at info@sugarplumcakeshop.com.  Please include your telephone number, your event date, the number of guests and any design ideas.

How much does a Sugarplum cake cost?

Stacked cakes:  These cakes consist of one or more tiers.  The minimum size of a Sugarplum cake is 12 servings.  Our prices start at 8€ per serving and varies with the size and the complexity of the design  Most of the photos that you see on our website and Facebook page are priced between 10-15€ per serving.  Sugar flowers and figurines are additional and range in price from 45-125€ (these decorations are not sold separately).  Styrofoam tiers can be incorporated into your cake design to add height.  These tiers are priced at 50-80% of the cost of a real cake tier.

 

Sculpted cakes:  These cakes are three-dimensional carved cakes and are priced by project instead of serving size.  If your desired cake shape is not round or square, then it is considered a carved cake.  There is a minimum price of 350€ for all sculpted cakes.  Please note that we cannot sculpt cakes out of carrot cake, praline, walnut, pistachio or pumpkin-chocolate chip cake.

 

Boutique-style cakes: These cakes are available for 60€.  They are single-tier, 8-inch round cakes iced with buttercream and serve from 12-16 people.  Please call us at 01.46.34.07.43 to confirm availability and flavors.  Writing (up to 8 characters) can be added in sugar circles for an additional 15€.

Is my event date available?  How far in advance should I order my cake?

The sooner the better.  Some weeks in our calendar book months beforehand, especially during wedding season.  However, we may be able to accommodate last minute orders.  Please email your request to info@sugarplumcakeshop.com.  If your event falls within the next 72 hours, or is for an iced boutique cake, please call us at +33 1 46 34 07 43 as well as sending us an email.  Don’t forget to include your mobile number, your event date, the number of guests and any ideas you have regarding the decoration.

 

Please be advised that we cannot hold your space in our calendar without a deposit.  This deposit is non-refundable, although it may be possible to apply it to a later order.  Payments can be made in person at Sugarplum Cake Shop (Tuesday-Sunday 12pm – 7pm), with a credit card via telephone or by bank transfer.

How do I order a Sugarplum cake?

To begin the process, please email us at info@sugarplumcakeshop.com.  Information regarding the pricing and availability as well as tastings and design meetings are available by email only.  Please include your mobile number, the event date, the number of guests and any ideas regarding the decoration.  Our client manager will respond to your request within 72 hours.  If you have not received a response in that time, please resend your request or call us at +33 1 46 34 07 43.

*The baristas in the Sugarplum Cake Shop make fantastic coffee, but they are not authorized to give information regarding the availability or pricing of cakes, so we will not be able to accommodate you if you come to the shop to order your cake without an appointment.  We are sorry for any inconvenience.

What flavors are available?

Cake flavors: vanilla, banana, lemon, orange, almond, strawberry, raspberry, hazelnut*, pistachio*, chocolate , red velvet**, carrot*, champagne, pumpkin with chocolate chips*, marble, coconut*, gingerbread, praline*, walnut*

* Not available for carved cakes

** We do not use red food colouring in our red velvet cake.

 

Buttercreams flavors: vanilla bean, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, white chocolate, espresso, mocha, almond, caramel, cream cheese, strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, blackberry, sour cherry, honey, violet, orange, lemon, rose, pistachio, orange flower, maple.  It is also possible to fill your cake with ganache (dark, milk or white chocolate) or lemon curd for a supplemental price of 0.50€/serving.

Do you offer cake tastings/design appointments?

We offer cake tastings by appointment only.  Please email us at info@sugarplumcakeshop.com to set up your tasting.  Please include your telephone number, your event date, the number of guests and any design ideas.  The cost of the appointment is 30€. This fee will be deducted from the price of your cake should you decide to order a Sugarplum cake.   Tasting/design appointments are generally available between 9:00am – 1:00pm Tuesday – Friday, or Saturday from 8:30am – 2:00pm.  Please allow an hour for the consultation.

 

*If you have to cancel your tasting, please let us know 24 hours in advance.  If you have to cancel with less than 24 hours notice, the 30€ fee will still apply.

 

We ask that your limit your tasting group to three people.  Once your appointment is scheduled, we will ask you to choose three flavors of cake and three flavors of filling that you would like to taste at your meeting.  These flavors need to be sent to us a minimum of 48 hours in advance.  For last minute tastings, we can prepare a plate of our most popular flavors for you to try.

 

We recommend that you bring to your meeting, or send us in advance, any ideas or inspiration that you have regarding the decoration of your cake i.e. story boards, palettes, your invitation, table decorations or photos of cakes that you like.  If you have a cake budget in mind, please let us know as it will help us focus on the designs and ideas that fit within your budget.  While we do not make direct copies of other designers’ cakes, we are open to using these photos as inspiration to design a unique cake for you.  At your appointment, you will be asked to place a deposit to guarantee your space in our calendar.  This deposit is non-refundable, although it may be possible to apply it to a later order.  The remainder is due two weeks before your event date.

Do you have a catalogue or brochure?

All of our cakes are custom made and unique, therefore we do not have a catalogue.  Check out our Facebook page to see our latest creations.  An estimate can be prepared for you upon request via email at info@sugarplumcakeshop.com.  Don’t forget to include your mobile number, your event date, the number of guests and any ideas you have regarding the decoration.

 

While we do not make copies of other designers’ cakes, we are open to using these photos as inspiration to design a unique cake for you.

Do you deliver?

Sugarplum Cake Shop can organize your delivery with a reliable third-party service.  Specific delivery times and dates can fill up quickly, so make your request as soon as possible. Delivery within Paris is a flat-rate of 76€.  Delivery is available throughout France mainland. Please contact us for an estimate.

 

Our cakes are also available for pickup.  While self-transport is generally not a problem for smaller cakes, some cakes should be transported in a refrigerated car, or may require onsite set up.  Please remember that you are transporting your cake at your own risk and that Sugarplum Cake Shop is not responsible for any damage that may occur once the cake has left the cake shop.

 

Here are some guidelines for transporting your own cake:  We do not recommend that you take your cake on the metro or bus.  The cake should be transported on a flat surface (for example, the flat surface of a trunk is better than the seat of a car) and must be kept cool and out of the sun.  We do not recommend transporting your own cake to a destination more than two hours away.  Cakes should be picked up the same day that they are going to be served.  We do not recommend self-transporting cakes over 16-inches tall, or cakes that have a tall, narrow shape.  Cakes should be transported in a refrigerated or air-conditioned vehicle.

Can I make changes to my cake’s design or flavors?

Some changes may be made up to two weeks before your event date.  Please remember that some sugar work requires weeks of preparation.  In this case, changes cannot be made after the original design meeting.  Deposits are non-refundable, although it might be possible to apply it to a later order.

Can you make gluten-free or dairy-free cakes?

Unfortunately, we do not make kosher, gluten- or dairy-free cakes at the moment.  We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Do you teach classes or host workshops?

Sugarplum Cake Shop does not currently host classes, but we may in the future.  So keep checking!

Do you offer internships or training courses?

Sugarplum Cake Shop offers 2 and 6 month internship opportunities in baking and in our coffeeshop.  Please email us at info@sugarplumcakeshop.com for more details.

 

We do not offer internships or courses in cake decorating.
